Western Balkans' Tour

Dear Friends,

We are pleased to invite you to participate in our Western Balkans’ Tour, where Confrontations Europe returns seven years after its 2005 conference in Sarajevo on the socio-economic and cultural challenges in creating a regional market, an event that gathered 250 participants.

In 2012, Confrontations Europe proposes to return to the Western Balkans and organize debates in three different countries – Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Our main goal is to meet and exchange with people of this region, in order to reach a better understanding of their difficulties and to cooperate towards building a shared future.

The regional market in Western Balkans has not yet been achieved. Countries do not currently develop at the same rate, and their accessions to the EU will not occur at the same time. After Slovenia in 2004 and Romania and Bulgaria in 2007, Croatia will accede to the EU in 2013 and Serbia recently received a full candidate status. The situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina, however, is a bit more complicated. Confrontations Europe would like to contribute to the reconciliation to engage with countries and nations on the way to a successful accession to the EU. During our debates, we aim to address the questions of education, vocational training and labor market organization; examine the obstacles in building a regional market, the one that could be used as a platform for a more dynamic growth ; and clarify the respective roles of the national states and the EU. We are bringing will bring together socio-economic actors, youth associations and civil society representatives, in a dialogue between them and the representatives of national and European institutions.

The cultural evenings around movie screening and the debates will give us an opportunity to know each other better. A documentary will be produced during the Tour in partnership with ThinkYoung on the role of young people in the countries of Western Balkans.
