WHO WE ARE

Established in 1992, Confrontations Europe is a non-for-profit civil society organisation which gathers companies’ managers, unionists, territorial players, members of the civil society, politicians, intellectuals and students from numerous countries in Europe, all committed to one idea: active participation of civil society for building of Europe.
In the context of the financial and economic crisis, the organisation proposes to consolidate the European Union and ambitions to mobilise citizens and other actors around proposals to get out of the crisis.

The organisation has evolved and has become an important network of citizens and European players, a European think tank acknowledged in Brussels and an active lobby to the institutions.

- Thanks to its work as an observer of European Union’s institutions agenda, it offers analysis and an expertise on economic, financial, social and political issues for building Europe.

- Its MEPs Club, “Europe@Work”, is led by a Steering Committee of 8 members: Elisa Ferreira (PT, S&D), Robert Goebbels (LU, S&D), Gunnar Hökmark (SW, PPE), Inigo Mendes de Vigo (ES, PPE), Andreas Schwab (DE, PPE), Josef Szajer (HU, PPE), Alain Lamassoure (FR, PPE) and Philippe Herzog. It is composed of around 40 MEPs from different political groups and countries.

- After the rejection of the Constitutional Treaty, Confrontations Europe launched “European Tour” to start a dialogue with other Europeans and to work with them upon the possible development of common policies related to the involvement of Europe in the global world.

- The organisation has many publications: Confrontations Europe, la Revue of our collection « Europe after Europe » Editions Le Manuscrit.

- Each year it organizes numerous symposiums and conferences. In 2009 the European Economic Debates focused on “the transformation of capitalism in Europe”. The first session on the “Climate package: a way out of the crisis?” took place on the 23rd of June in Brussels. The second session on “Businesses and politics facing the crisis - training, employment and long term investment" took place on December 10th and 11th, 2009.

- The initiatives and publications are prepared by working groups which gather around 1,000 people who debate on socio-economic issues high on the European agenda.

Confrontations Europe develops its activities thanks to its members, citizens and territorial players, members of organisations, companies…
